Joe McElderry is turning up the drama and turning up the volume with ‘Phantom Of The Discotheque’, a striking new single that brings together his love of big vocals and theatrical performance. Released on 15 October, the track continues a new chapter for the singer, drawing on the different musical influences that have shaped his career and giving them a fresh, dance-driven twist.

Combining a big, driving dance beat with Joe’s powerhouse vocals and a flair for the dramatic, ‘Phantom Of The Discotheque’ is made for the dancefloor. Blending infectious pop hooks with the grandeur of classical crossover and the excitement of musical theatre, the track brings a fresh energy to Joe’s sound, building a world where theatrical spectacle meets late-night club euphoria. The idea began to take shape during a trip to New York, where a visit to Masquerade sparked Joe’s imagination and got him thinking about the Phantom in a new way.

Rather than simply a mysterious character, the Phantom became a metaphor for music itself: an unseen force capable of drawing a crowd together, taking hold of the moment and making everyone feel part of something bigger. “I’ve always wanted to create a song that touched on all the genres I’ve crossed in my career. Pop, classical crossover and musical theatre have all been such a huge part of my journey, and I wanted to bring those worlds together over a really huge, exciting dance track. “I was in New York and went to see Masquerade, and it got me thinking about the idea of the Phantom.

For me, the Phantom is essentially the beat of the music, that invisible force that takes over a crowd, pulls everyone into the same moment and gets everybody moving together. You lose yourself in the music, you lose a little bit of control, and suddenly everyone is connected by the same rhythm. That feeling is what I wanted to capture in this song!” At its heart, ‘Phantom Of The Discotheque’ is about the moment when music becomes more than something you listen to. It is the shared rush of a crowd responding to the same rhythm, the anticipation as a track builds and the freedom that comes from letting go. With its driving dance sound and theatrical sense of occasion, the single is designed to make an impact while giving Joe plenty of room to showcase the vocal power and personality that have become hallmarks of his performances.
