The notoriously elusive Whyte Horses have returned with a surprise new single titled ‘Calabasas’ featuring the vocals of Scissor Sisters chanteur, Jake Shears
Penned by Dom Thomas of Whyte Horses & Jake Shears, and seemingly spanning a brief musical history of modern music, Calabasas is the sound of falling out of love in abeautiful way.
With its hazy melancholic introduction, luscious sunsets at 80% humidity and decaying decadence, the tongue-in-cheek verses perfectly marry Jake Shear’s witty wordplay and Whyte Horses side-eye look at songwriting with timeless melodies bursting into an unforgettable euphoric chorus refrain.
So, after 6 years in the wilderness, the year’s most interesting collaboration has been thrust upon us.
But what does this mean?
Is this the precursor to a new album?
Probably.
Will there be more new music? Certainly.
Will the band finally play another of their iconic trademark happenings?
Undoubtedly.
But what do we know to be actually true?
Well, in true Whyte Horses style, refusing to be rooted solely in one genre, as always, Whyte Horses have delivered a song not quite like anything else on the radio but perfectly formed and ready to explode on an unsuspecting public.
