Club Tropicana is back in 2022! (Wonderland Redux) Wham! x Drummar

WHAM! join forces with drummar the Andrew Ridgeley and Dru Masters creative partnership to celebrate the glory of Summer and present a brand-new reimagining of the iconic track ‘Club Tropicana’. It is released globally today [August 5th, 2022]. 

drummar’s ‘Wonderland Redux’ version of Club Tropicana, is the creation of WHAM!’s Andrew Ridgeley and his good friend, composer, songwriter and producer Dru Masters, who have collaborated in the re-working of one of the most definitive summer pop songs of all-time.

On the remix, Andrew explains, “When drummar started work on re-conceiving ‘Club Tropicana’ in a contemporary club style, our primary goal was to retain the character and personality of the song and the record that George and I wrote and recorded.

drummar’s take on ‘Club Tropicana’ starts with the instantly recognisable cicada sound effects of the original version played over an atmospheric call and answer synth melody, which then kicks into overdrive with a high-octane sonic facelift of the verse, building progressively into a pumping sonic torrent in the chorus.

Andrew continues, “In 1983 it became a track that defined the hedonistic pleasure of sunny Mediterranean island summer holidays and we were guided by that perspective in our reworking of this definitive holiday anthem. Hence our title for this track, ’Wonderland Redux’. It is the bringing back of a moment of magic, re-presenting, for a new generation, the wonder and joy of the heady and carefree days of youth. It is the soundtrack to summer renewed and reaffirmed and I hope it conveys the same vitality and pleasure George and I imagined in the original recording.”

‘Club Tropicana’ remains one of the most unforgettable pop songs of all-time, following its release in July 1983. A worldwide hit, its carefree and colourful, flamboyancy remains adored by fans across the globe.
