Wild Whispers is a harmony-driven folk pop duo formed in Western Maryland by lifelong musicians Eli Lev and Megan Leigh. Eli grew up in the Silver Spring, Maryland suburbs and Megan on a dairy farm in Boonsboro, Maryland.
After meeting on Instagram in 2017, they connected through music and songwriting by finding a unique blend of acoustic guitar, percussion, and vocal harmonies.
Building on various solo ventures and a cross-country tour in 2019, the pair came back to Western Maryland and began writing songs for their first trilogy music project - a trifecta of songs following the Greek myth of Icarus and his journey of transformation.
In 2020, right after the global pandemic began and shut down the world, Eli and Megan filmed their breakout Tiny Desk Contest video submission of ‘Icarus Rising’ in the barn on Megan’s family’s farm where they now reside.
Each morning, Eli heads to the barn and feeds 13 hungry horses who await their grain, and four cats who can be heard meowing across the meadow for their breakfast. Every winter evening, Megan heads up to the outdoor wood furnace and adds logs to the fire, heating the well water that runs through radiators through the house to keep it warm at night. In the summer, the family also grows and harvests hay, and tends to the fruit and vegetable gardens that straddle their late 1700s two-story stone farmhouse, which was used as an officer’s hospital during the Civil War battle of Antietam.
One of the mainstays of the homestead is the horse barn that has been partly converted into an event space for weddings and special occasions. This is the wooden structure that can be seen in many of their live performance videos that they have been releasing consistently on YouTube over the last three years.
In addition to their live performance videos, they frequently host live concerts both inside the barn and out across the neighboring meadow that draw increasingly large audiences from near and far.
Compared to Of Monsters and Men, The Civil Wars, and a modern-day Fleetwood Mac, Wild Whispers are bringing their own brand of cinematic pop harmonies from their cozy western Maryland homestead to audiences worldwide.
