"Record Player" Daisy The Great & AJR

Brooklyn indie pop ensemble Daisy the Great have signed a long-term deal with New York-based indie S-Curve Records.  To start the relationship off, the duo have teamed up with chart-topping alt-rock trio AJR for a quirky and infectious track, “Record Player,” listen here.

Incorporating the hook from Daisy the Great’s 2017 release “The Record Player Song”, the new track is a hook-laden jam about finding identity and the growing pains of early adulthood. “Record Player” arrives alongside a captivating and delightful new animated music video by Yuval Haker, featuring both Daisy the Great and AJR.

The chorus of “The Record Player Song” became the object of an ongoing TikTok “one breath challenge,” with fans singing the infectious hook in more than 20 thousand videos, viewed over 270 million times.

Jack Met of AJR first heard the song through TikTok and connected with Daisy the Great to collaborate on a new song built around the existing hook.

New tracks from Daisy the Great’s forthcoming album, will be released later in 2021.

Daisy the Great say about the track,

“Our new song "Record Player (with AJR)" incorporates the hook of our song "The Record Player Song," which is actually the first track we ever released as Daisy the Great! The song is about a struggle for identity, impostor syndrome, and finding yourself stuck in a version of yourself that you created.”

AJR on the new track:

"This has never happened to us before, but we came across this Daisy the Great chorus, and thought it was the catchiest thing we’d ever heard. We thought if we could team up with the artists behind that hook and build a new song using the existing hook as the basis, it could be something pretty special."

Daisy the Great is fronted by Kelley Nicole Dugan and Mina Walker. Mina and Kelley started writing music together in 2016 and over the last couple of years Daisy The Great has supported acts like Indigo Girls, Sidney Gish, and Samia. Refinery 29 says the dynamic duo is “joining a larger chorus of female pop musicians that are leaning into anarchy and melancholia” with their intimate, tactile lyrical observations, sung through beautiful, heartfelt harmonies. Kelley and Mina create an inviting, playful sound by combining the heavenly harmonies and the robust sincerity.
