YOGI ENLISTS MALEEK BERRY, RAY BLK AND KID INK FOR NEW SINGLE ‘BABY’
iLL BLU REMIX AVAILABLE NOW
Released today is the iLL BLU remix of Yogi’s new single ‘Baby’ featuring Maleek Berry, Ray BLK and Kid Ink. The single is undeniably a hit, filled with energetic rhythms reminiscent of carefree summer nights. Yogi samples Julio Bashmore and brings his unique flavour and international influences into the masterful production, once again positioning himself as the one to watch for 2018.
“ I always wanted to find a way to flip Au Seve, I took the break down section and slowed it down and worked with Ray BLK and Kid Ink to help make a verse and chorus on it. Maleek was the last but vital piece of the puzzle to make the song come alive. Once I had all the vocals I went in on the production to make it feel like it would go down in the club” explains Yogi.
“I’ve never done a song like this and glad I got to try something new and do something fun with summer vibes and be a part of Yogi’s dope album!” says RAY BLK.
“Once I got sent the song I fell in love with it instantly. The beat is just a vibe. Didn’t take me long to come up with my verse. As soon as it hit me I knew exactly what to do. This will be a summer anthem” speaks Maleek Berry.
‘Baby’ comes as a follow-up to ‘Cakin’, Yogi’s epic collaboration with DRAM and Lady Leshurr. Listen HERE. Released at the tail end of 2017, Yogi came through with instant fire, merging the sounds of the UK & US. Described as ‘flawless’ by Zane Lowe (Beats 1), the track was supported across radio by Annie Mac (Radio 1), DJ Target (1Xtra) and Mistajam (1Xtra) as his Jam Hot record (among others), as well as being added to 1XTRA and Kiss Fresh Playlists. It was Apple Music’s ‘Best of the Week’ and across their A-List for Rap, as well as making Deezer’s ‘Brand New Music’ and ‘Brand New UK’ additions. Spotify also featured the track across six New Music Friday playlists. The track garnered press support across Line of Best Fit, Notion, Hunger, XXL, Rewind and more.
Born and bred in Brent Cross, North west London, Yogi existed in his own world. But having lived in Los Angeles for the past three years, Yogi’s upcoming debut album is centered on his personal connection between the two cities. He’s been coming back and forth here for the past five or six years as an in-house producer at Interscope, the label founded by Jimmy Iovine – and through which he ended up meeting and signing a production deal with the legendary Dr Dre, and an artist deal with Skrillex's OWSLA to release his own music. These connections became the catalyst for Yogi’s journey across the Atlantic. And it’s these relationships Yogi fostered that’s put him in a position to bring the likes of DRAM and Kid Ink, together with UK acts such as Ray BLK, Lady Leshurr on his debut album, successfully marrying the tone of two of the world's most iconic cities into one unique, jet-setting sound.
His production credits include some of the best in the game at the moment. Names like Rita Ora, Stormzy, Tinie Tempah, AlunaGeorge, Kid Ink, Professor Green and Santigold, are only a testament to Yogi’s strength as a powerhouse producer and his demand is sure to sky rocket. Yogi produced Wretch 32’s single ‘Traktor’ which came in at No.2 on the UK Official Charts.
Yogi describes his upcoming album as “a driving album” – one built around memories of cruising around London and Los Angeles, the different feelings each place evokes and the tunes he would play along the way. In a nutshell “I wanted to aspire make something like the Chronic 2001 of 2018,” he says, before going on to explain how the album is a marriage between LDN and LA. There’s also one final point he wants to get across – which is that the album is also going to have the kind of bumping tracks that hark back to his days as a DJ and could easily be played in a club.
