Sarkodie, born Michael Owusu Addo was raised in the streets of Tema, community 9 in Ghana. Today, he is a multi-award winning, chart topping rapper with a musical signature recognised globally.

Sarkodie is the epitome of an international artist. He stays true to his Ghanaian roots with his Afrobeat’s raps yet touches a multitude of demographics through his raw authenticity and soul. From an early age Sarkodie sought solace in music, overcoming real struggles by using the microphone as his only outlet. Never touching alcohol or drugs his dedication to his art form is stoic. Sarkodie quickly accumulated a cult following by fusing Western and African rapping trends and mastering the musical language to tell his African story.

Sarkodie expertly navigates languages however choses to solely rap in Twi (a Ghanaian dialect), his songs have moments of English and beats that resonate globally.

Sarkodie explains:“Music to me is an art expressed through real emotions and that’s the main reason why I don’t compromise and rap in a language other than my own (Twi)… Once you spill lyrics from your soul it immediately connects you to the listener. The only universal language we have in this world is ‘Emotions’…. My people back home enjoy acts like Lil Wayne, Jay Z, Kendrick, 50 Cent, though most have no clue what they are actually saying. They still connect.”.

Music

Sarkodie made his breakthrough in Ghana through his uniquely thought provoking, freestyle raps in his native tongue Twi. He began pursuing his dream in music through the off-hand rap show Adom 106.3 FM. His rise to success was gradual, with his first hit track ‘Baby’ feat Mugeez of the R2bees solidifying him as a household name in Ghana even before his debut album. Over the last decade Sarkodie has dropped 5 albums and performed with notable acts including Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, Chipmunk, T-Pain, Trey Songz, Movado and more.

Sarkodie currently has three award winning albums; “Rapperholic” (2012), “Sarkology” (2014) and Mary (2015). He has just released chart topping “Highest" album in September 2017 which is in the midst of reaching unprecedented numbers and heights. “Highest” is set to be his most successful album to date.

Business/ Philanthropy

Sarkodie is a true entrepreneur owning his own record label SarkCess Music as well as a clothing line worn internationally; Sarks Collection. He has worked with many major brands including becoming an ambassador for Samsung and FanMilk Ghana. Sarkodie is also heavily involved with philanthropic work. He launched the Sarkodie Foundation which supports underprivileged children in 2013. One of the foundation’s more notable outreaches being the “feeddakids” campaign in Tema, where they provided thousands of kids with sacks of rice, yogurt and beverages alongside school bags, water bottles and hats.
