New album ‘Bring Back The Love’ out 28th November on Global Phusion

Hil St Soul singer goes solo with impressive results’ MOJO **** (four stars)

Hilary Mwelwa AKA Hilz is no stranger to the game. Having started her career ten years ago as part of the duo Hil St Soul (with producer Victor Redwood Sawyer), Hilary has recorded four critically acclaimed albums, garnered a significant international following as well collaborating and sharing stages with some of music’s finest talent.

Forthcoming album ‘Bring Back The Love’ (Released 28th November on Global Phusion) is her first as a solo artist and has been produced by highly touted London production duo The Rural (whose previous production credits include work with Beyonce and Beverley Knight), and looks set to take Hilz’ classy blend of soul, gospel, hip-hop and r’n’b to a new, wider audience.

The full range of Zambian born, UK raised Hilary’s song writing talents are displayed on tracks including eponymous song ‘Bring Back The Love’, a gorgeous slice of summery Lovers Rock, uplifting soul ballad ‘I’ve Got You’ (scheduled to be serviced to radio as the first single lifted from the album), the bouncing reggae bass lines of ‘Mexican’ and the hip-hop infused groove of ‘Where It Hurts’. ‘Bring Back The Love’ is also the perfect showcase for Hilary’s smooth and stunning vocals – a voice that r’n’b/hip-hop bible Vibe Magazine described as a ‘rich, velvety voice that warms the inside like a spot of tea’.

One listen to “Bring Back The Love” (and those velvety vocals), and it becomes immediately apparent how Hilary has come to collaborate with the likes of US Soul star Dwele, rap legend Pharoah Monch and UK hip hop artist Roots Manuva. She has shared stages with some of the finest talent in music, including James Brown, Raphael Saadiq, Macy Gray, D’Angelo, Angie Stone, Isaac Hayes, Donell Jones, Lalah Hathaway and Boys To Men. Last year Hilary was even personally chosen by Spike Lee to tour with him as special guest vocalist for his Movie Music tour of Europe where, accompanied by a 30 piece orchestra, she performed songs from Spike’s movies such as Jungle Fever.

Long admired by soul aficionados both in the UK and further afield, Hilz’ return is long over due and it’s one that will excite her long time fans and surely create a host of new ones.

‘Bring Back The Love’ is released through Global Phusion on 28th November
