With his platform sneakers, multicolored hair and trademark sunglasses, you won’t confuse Ian Erix with anybody else on the music scene right now. His outrageous style is a talking piece second only to his music which these days is perhaps best described as Electro Punk Pop. Those familiar with the earlier works that first catapulted Erix into the international spotlight, racked up over 20 million plays online and landed him on several Top 10 charts on 3 continents will certainly recognize the signature elements of his sound but they will also surely appreciate the musical evolution Erix has undergone in the process of making his hotly anticipated new record.
Having earned his stripes, at first as a child prodigy DJ, from the age of nine in his hometown of New York, Ian's tenacious DIY work ethic and attitude helped his early based musical efforts impact in Japan, South East Asia and several markets in Europe. Continuing to cultivate his presence on popular social networks, Erix eventually garnered millions of song plays and amassed a dedicated legion of fans in many corners of the globe. Despite a series of rejections, hard luck and false-starts that plagued Ian during his formative
years, his songs were finally published by Warner/Chappell and EMI and Ian gained the backing of label bosses in Europe at both Universal Music and Sony Entertainment. Additional breakthroughs came in 2012 when Erix appeared on stage in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil at a live New Years Eve show with David Guetta in front of more than 2.5 million people on Copacabana Beach.
In 2013, EDM powerhouse Ultra Music signed Ian to their label and released a remix of Erix's hit single "Sex, Dance and Rock & Roll" which had reached the Top 3 of various influential music charts in several territories. Following that up in 2014, Erix traveled to Sweden to write and record material for his latest album and while in Scandinavia, he penned an outlandish tongue-in-cheek song called "Shangri-La". Universal Music Group promptly released a version of that track as performed by a boyband in Finland and it topped the charts in that region becoming the song of the summer in Scandinavia. Erix's "Shangri-La" was released in Summer 2015 along with a colorful and raucous music video which has now surpassed 2 million views on Vevo and charted within the Top 40 in several territories.
Erix embarked on a 22 city tour in July around Europe and was seen across the continent at numerous high profile events such as Ultra Music Festival Europe, Tomorrowland and MTV’s Ibiza Fest. He conntinued to tour extenseivley through 2016 appearing at Paradise Music Festival in The Philippines with Kanye West and fellow pop artist Austin Mahone. He also headlined the Smash The Tropics tour with stops in 30+ cities around the globe. A multifaceted and intriguing personality, Erix is currently involved in two upcoming television projects for both VEVO and MTV and will also be featured as a lead character in an upcoming video game for XBox which has been in development for some time.
“Renegade”, Ian's highly anticipated forthcoming album is expected in the spring of 2017 and the record is chocked full of infectious melodies and hooks featuring compelling, thought provoking and often quirky lyrics. The new material proves Erix is a formidable songwriter and marks a significant growth for him as an artist. Paying homage to his pop/punk roots, Ian marries his signature guitar driven sound with solid amounts of modern dance beats and synth elements to create a fantastic pop hybrid and a collection of enormously catchy and instantly recognizable songs. His album release has been preceded by “Graffiti On My Heart”, an ambitious four part music video film project which has been the most personal, inspirational and impactful visual piece of Ian’s career thus far which showcases childhood bullying, familial abuse and contains a strong narrative about how to rise above tragedy.
As an outspoken proponent for freethinking and self expression, Erix continues to inspire and lead his young fans. Known as the “Mutt Army”, Ian’s folowers are comprised of all nationalities, religions, races, genders, and sexualities united under their shared love for his music and message. Erix’s single, "Tomahawk" which is featured as part 4 in the “Graffiti On My Heart”quadrilogy is a powerful and catchy anthem about being true to yourself at all costs that will surely resonate with large numbers of youth around the world when it impacts at pop radio later this year. Another stirring single from Erix called “Footprints In The Sand” is already receiving early support from DJ’s on the international music festival circuit and at Top 40 pop radio in numerous markets.
